When your boss appears on Facebook suddenly
A few days ago, I had a chat with my friend who is in Taiwan and tries to find the next work. He said when he had an interview with a company; the company’s manager asked him a question, “Do you use social network services?”; And then, my friend answered “Yes”. That manager asked another question “which website do you user and could I see your profile.”
My friend asked me if your present boss wants to see your profile, would you accept this request.
This is a very interesting question. According to Facebook (2008), there are around 70 members. Now, most media talk a lot about Facebook. So some managers try to sign up Facebook and want to find someone who is their friend or colleague on the Facebook. Recently, I read some articles related to what should I do, if my boss ask me want to be my friends. This one descried this situation happened. Someone said he will reject this request because he wants have some private after working. The other said maybe he will change his profile, photos, comments, etc, in order to make his Facebook become normal profile.
If you have the same situation, what would you do?
What is your answer?

Make Your Owned Web 2.0 Resume
The New York Times provided a post, The Web 2.0 Résumé. Recently, most people think that Web 2.0 Résumé is Video Résumé. But in that post, it does not talk about Video Résumé, it is about real social media resume. It means that someone set up a website, he put everything into this website, such as posts he wrote, posts he Digged, something from his Twitter.
In this post, a sentence is very impressing me. That is young people cannot clear their work in the Web 2.0. It means if your future boss wants, he can use Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to try to find any information about you. So is the Web 2.0 resume good for seeking employment? People want to hide their actions more than put in the resume.
This kind of resume is useful and helpful for applying a job.
We can see some example about Web 2.0 Resume.
First example is Christ Penn’s Resume. He used Google Page to make his social media resume. This is very simple webpage. In the left side, you can see some work he did.
Next example is Rohit Bhargava’s Resume. In the bottom, we can see his del.icio.us tags. He wants to show which kind of tags he is interesting in.
See the examples given above. They are not real employment seekers. They just show how can make Web 2.0 Resume. If you want, make a Web 2.0 resume by yourself.
A funny music video about Web 2.0
This is a very funny music video about Web 2.0 bubble.
Lyrics:
there’s absolutely no bubble in technology.
got me a cs degree honor roll, MIT
moved to palo alto opportunity knocked
thought I had the perfect plan took a job at webvan
traded in my twenties for a worthless pile of tech stock
suffered through the market crash lost a giant wad of cash
pink slips, burger flips would you like some fries?
happy days are here again larry page, sergey brin
time to write a business plan so I can be like those guys!
here comes another bubble
it’s a monster rally all around the valley
first you need a buzzword then a second and a third
pick at least two industries you’ll revolutionize
find yourself an engineer feed him pizza, buy him beer
give him just a fraction of a fraction of the pie
need a good domain name must be cheap, can’t be lame
something cool like flickr, meebo, wikiyou, mahalo, bebo
“telephone” without the “t”
“digg” but with a triple “g”
make your elevator pitch code it up and flip the switch
here comes another bubble
the VCs are backing bady let’s get cracking
blog blog blog it all blog it if it’s big or small
blog at the Cineplex blog while you’re having sex
blog in the locker room babies blogging in the womb
blog even if you’re wrong won’t you blog about this song?
launch party, nicely dressed what’s the point? Sausage fest
blue shirts, khaki pants looking like a line of ants
need to get a facebook page all these guys are half my age
twenty nine, past my prime I feel so behind the times
here comes another bubble
in a year we swear we’ll all be billionaires
make yourself a million bucks partly skill, mostly luck
now you can afford a down payment on a small house
if you want a bigger one hillsborough, atherton
better hope the same thing happened to your spouse
IPO…lucky you have your cake and eat it too
private yacht, party jet why not buy a matching set
build yourself a rocket ship blast off on an ego trip
can this really be the end? back to work you go again
here comes another bubble
and when we are gone this will still go on
and on and on and on and on
and on and on and on and on

Before you say
My parents told me before you say, you need to think about your words clearly. Sometimes you will think I just talk about a truth, but you don’t consider that words might break someone’s heart. In Chinese culture, we have a sentence “Thinking your words for three times before you say.”
So why I say this one for today’s topic ? Because I make this kind of mistake. I did not think about it clearly and my speak is quiet rude. After my talk, I considered the atmosphere is changing. After that, I tried to apologise to my friend. Although He accepted my apology, I do not know how to continue our conversation. My dear friend, I am really sorry about that.
Women want the top five websites.
A few days ago, my friend gave me a website, Quantcast – Open Internet Ratings Service, he said this website is a open internet ratings service. advertisers with audience profiles for millions of websites and services. When I see this website, I found some interesting thing inside. Most websites design their front pages for male users, not focus on female users. If we do not understand female behaviour, you can be succeed in the internet market. So I found top five websites which is female users are interested in.
Before I talk about the top five website. I want to described it, Quantcast – Open Internet Ratings Service. This website show your website how many people visit your website and some detail about visitors such as age, gender, education, household income, ethnicity, etc. From these information, we can see which kind of websites are popular for female users. Now I will talk my viewpoint.
First of all, I think shopping website is the most popular website for women. Form the top 100 websites, the highest rank shopping website is Target.com. The rank is 19th. A few weeks age, I read a news about how Target.com defeat Wal-Mart. And you can see 61% female user visit this website in over 31 million U.S.A. user monthly uniques. Same situation happened in Overstock.com (around 60% female users). For JCpenney.com, the gap between male and female is bigger than others around 35% and 65%. But interesting thing is that, for comparison shopping website, Shopzilla.com, male and female user is almost equal. It means female users like taking a look first and then buy it. For men, they tend to comprise price in different websites before they shop.
Second is answering website. Female User in this kind of website become a trend is not a new news in the internet. The 13th rank website is About.com. This website reaches over 43 million user monthly uniques in U.S.A. The percentage of female user is almost 10% more than the one of male user. And another website, Ask.com, the 26th rank website, has the same situation. The quiet interesting thing is seeing the demographics deeply. I found About.com attract the age range is around 25-34 and Ask.com is around 18-24. They have different target audience group.
The third one is Yellowpages and Whitepages websites. This is very strange. Because these websites is a method for people search the contact detail about shops or companies and everyone uses this kind of website. Actually, it is not. In those websites, YellowPages.com and WhitePages.com, the figure of female visitors is 16% – 18% more than male ones. Also I found something are very interesting. You can see most visitors of YellowPages.com are African or Spanish people and the education level is not high and also the income is under average. But in the Whitepages.com, it is total different. The main visitor group is white people with high education and high income level. So the website owners can search what kind of women use their website.
Now turning to the fourth website, Health D.I.Y. website. This kind of websites, WebMD.com and Mih.gov, focus on people try to find some information about their symptoms. Comparing with Yahoo ! Health, they have different target audience. Yahoo ! Health focuses on how to take care your body.
Finally one is Finding old classmates website. It is not the same as Facebook.com, although some people think they are the similar websites. When I said finding classmates websites that are Reunion.com or Classmates.com, they are professional finding old classmate websites. Now if the university students want to find their primary school or secondary school classmates, they always go to Facebook to search its. But for over 30 years old people, they want professional websites to help them find their old classmates. Also you can see around 56% – 58% female visitors use these websites.
In addition, I also want to talk about this website, Smiley Central.com (Qantcast information is here Smiley Central.com), it is a free emoticon download website and users con put this icon into E-mails, IM or blogs. The rank of this website is 39th and almost 19 million visitors monthly uniques. The female users are around double than male users. In this website, the main user group is on the low income level.
