Heather Armstrong, A blogger Mother

(Source: dooce)

Recently, I saw an article about “The blogger mom — Salt Lake woman’s Web rants from home draw raves and revenue.” According to Technorati, this is a blog search engine; this blogging rank is 47th now. This blogger’s name is Heather Armstrong, she was a website designer. Now she is a at-home mother and blogger, has a 4-years-old daughter. In her blog, it shows all of article about her family life.

Nowadays, a lot of blogs show their life experiences. So why is this blog so successful? She writes her life deeply. Comparing with other bloggers, her blog does not cover anything about her “PRIVATE” life.

However, this blogger does not mention how much she earns every month? But according to Technorati, almost 4 million PV (Page Views) are in her blog per month. It estimated the site could yield $40,000 (US dollars) a month in revenue. So her husband quit his job two years ago. She and her husband launch a company, Armstrong Production, together. Now they have their online shop.

And she is also a endorser. She only endorses those products she purchased. For example, “Yukiko Kamioka in Colchester, England, said she was struggling with only 10 visitors a day to her Web site, seabreezestudio.co.uk, until Dooce endorsed her handmade bags; 3,000 visitors immediately swamped her site, and she soon sold out of her merchandise.” Is means she ahs that power bring the business and she is also the information leadership.

A New Service from Yahoo!

A couple weeks ago, Yahoo! bought IndexTools, which is a leading provider of Web analytics software for online marketing. According to Dennis R. Mortensen’s Blog, in the future, Yahoo! possibly will make this service become free as same as Google Trend and Microsoft.

Now, IndexTools’ pricing is between 26.95 to 139. Expectably this service will attract normal users. This step is a very important advance for Yahoo!. If this service could attract a great quantity of website publisher, it can improve Yahoo! to collect a great deal of users’ behavior about surfing. This collection will help Yahoo! improve the accuracy and Click-through rate of key words advertising.

Video on Flickr

Before, I already mentioned user can put video on Flickr. Now, I want to talk another information about this.

Flickr will have a Free Donut Day in Bob’s Donuts, San Francisco, at 11 AM, 16 April 2008. But why do they want to have this campaign? It is the Video on the Flickr.

Flickr tries to provide the video sharing service. Before that, Flickr only do photo sharing service. Now they want to join into video service. But some Flickr users do not have this kind of service so they set up some discuss group, We Say No to Video on Flickr, this group has almost 30,000 members, another one is NO VIDEO ON FLICKR, this also has 12,000 members. However, those are small group in Flickr. Flickr has 25 million members. The oppose groups in Flickr are 0.08 % of the total membership.

This number is very small. But Flickr or Internet companies want solve this problem as soon as possible. Flickr try to launch another campaign, We Demand Donuts. Flickr imitates the oppose groups. They make a plan, if you gather 20,000 members in one group; Flickr will give you a free donut for each of you. Donut is a very funny stuff in the USA. It is unhealthy and non-nutrition, but everyone like it and eat it. Therefore, this group want to other users see this campaign means a group of stupid want to threaten Flickr to get a free donut. It is funny, relaxed, interesting and expectant.

As a result, there is a group real have almost 2000 member. However, they do not have enough members. Flickr also response this group. Flickr say: “
While you have not yet reached your goal of 20K members, we at FlickrHQ have heard of your noble efforts and seek to answer your cries for justice.

This event maybe give us a idea about that, Humor is the best way of crisis management.

April Fools’ Day

(2007 April Fools’ Day in Wikipeadia)

Yesterday was April Fools’ Day. I hope everyone escape jokes. If you already got a joke, please relax and have fun. Now, I have some famous example about April Fools’ Day.

Smell-o-vision: In 1965, the BBC purported to conduct a trial of a new technology allowing the transmission of odor over the airwaves to all viewers. Many viewers reportedly contacted the BBC to report the trial’s success. This hoax was also conducted by the Seven Network in Australia in 2005. In 2007, the BBC website repeated an online version of the hoax.

Tower of Pisa: The Dutch Television news reported once in the 1950s that the Tower of Pisa had fallen over. Many shocked people contacted the station.

Now if you are still interesting April Fools’ Day, you can see how many jokes happened yesterday around the world?
